On December 20 RedCLARA activated the ground link of 1 Gbit/s Ethernet installed between San Salvador (El Salvador) and San Jose (Costa Rica), increasing the backbone capacity in the section that runs between San Jose - Managua - San Salvador to 1 Giga and leaving a node in Nicaragua to which the country will be able to connect as soon as it decides to become a RedCLARA member.

The growth in more than six times of the capacity between Costa Rica and El Salvador is part of the optic fibre project that RedCLARA leads and that is ranging from Tapachula (Mexico) to Panama City (Panama).

For RAICES, in El Salvador, the installation and commissioning of the new link, which has a much bigger capacity than the other one, and that connects us to the advanced networks, through RedCLARA, means the opening of new and greater opportunities to continue to attract and connect more members to the National Research and Education Network. The possibility of increasing the speed and efficiency with which communications are performed by researchers, teachers and students of our member institutions is an important advancement in the ongoing quest for improving the quality of services that we provide to them."
