Holz, the creator of the domain .UY and Executive Director of the Uruguayan Academic Network  (RAU), is the first Latin American personality that joins the Internet Hall Of Fame. She was recognized in the category Global Connectors on nominations 2013 announced today.

The Internet Hall Of Fame is the annual award created in 2012 by the Internet Society to distinguish those who have made significant contributions to the development and growth of the Internet worldwide.

Ida Holz is recognized for having developed the first direct link of Internet connection in Uruguay and for being one of the most important people to enhance the democratization of knowledge through Internet in the region. One of her most important achievements is the creation of the domain .UY 23 years ago, while she was working as Director of the University Central Computer Service (SeCIU), registering entity of Uruguay.

Among the personalities who joined this year are also included Bob Metcalfe, Marc Andreessen, Richard Stallman, Aaron Swartz (posthumous), Jimmy Wales and George Sadowsky, among others.
