The scientific community and the actors responsible for decisions relating to the environment need to know about biodiversity, especially in diverse countries like Colombia. But the general community can and should be interested in knowing the natural resources.

As a window into the world of diversity, biological collections are repositories of biological wealth of a nation, because in them are stored specimens for study and in many cases the only witnesses of extinct species.

In countries like Colombia, where these collections acquire extreme importance in research and education processes, a project related to these is of fundamental importance.

Therefore, the Institute of Natural Sciences, Faculty of Sciences Universidad Nacional de Colombia (Bogotá, ICN), running a project for the dissemination of biological data on the network, along with two other participating institutions: the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) and the Idrolectivo (IDRO).
