For the third consecutive year, the plan is to celebrate this significant day with a series of activities to stimulate connectivity and use of this tool for academia and science. RAICES is an entity that is promoting the celebration. Internet Day was instituted in 2005 in the context of the Second World Summit on the Information Society.

May 17 will be held for the seventh time global Internet Day (DDI). This is the third year that El Salvador is planning a series of celebrations that will be extended to the week of 16 to 20 May, led by the Asociación Conexión and SVNet.

Last week was held the first meeting to form the Committee for Promotion of DDI 2011, which drew more than 20 entities, some of whom have worked in previous years. Salvadorian Advanced Network Research, Science and Education (RAICES) is already part of this Committee.

 
"The Support Committee is composed of prestigious organizations, involved in the promotion, development and proper use of the Internet," said Gilberto Lara, president of Asociación Conexión.

Team is commitment to foster the development of events and activities related to the Internet during the week of celebration and involved in distribution.

At this early stage of planning, the Committee members have proposed to pursue talks at universities, but also implement innovative activities as the development of a LAN Party on 17 May. The party will convene massive people to connect to the Internet, in a space that would be enabled during the day until midnight.

Strengthen the dissemination of DDI inside the country and renew the contest this year, so involving the use of technology (for instance do a blog contest) have been other proposals.
