Rafael Ibarra: "Education is being and can be transformed" PDF Print E-mail

The president of the Advanced Network Research, Science and Education of El Salvador (RAICES) said in an interview at a media recognized, how the Internet has become a powerful tool for education and advanced networks impact how science and research.

“Internet as a tool for educational training” was now the focus of the live interview of William Melendez, broadcast every day for LPG Multimedia. The special guest to address this issue was the president of RAICES, Rafael Ibarra, also known as "The Father of Internet" because of his fervent work to get connected to the country in 1995.

Meléndez and Ibarra addressed the Internet's most vibrant topics in this moment, such as the use of social networks for education and the end of IPv4 addresses.

Ibarra said the internet has brought benefits to the education of Salvadorans.

“The Internet gives a great ubiquity education, students and teachers can be anywhere and learn in an autonomous or directed”, he said.

RAICES President explained that, currently, there are many distance learning sites and Salvadorans are preparing teachers to acquire the new skills required to teach across the web, such as maximum use of the possibilities multimedia and the use of Web documents.

“It opens the possibility that education is autonomous, each one can learn by itself. As adults we have to try to stimulate and guide the competition and almost innate ability to bring children to handle the technology,” he added.

Ibarra also noted that the Salvadoran private sector, and there are products that can support education directed through the web, especially for children and youth. “There is a product called T Box Planet, combining these schemes of social networks and the Internet in an educational scheme to control.”

Education is being and can be transformed by the Internet, Ibarra said, while recognizing that we are at an early stage of ICT use in education. “It is not the panacea to a school computer and internet connection, does not solve all problems,” he said.

Advanced Internet

RAICES President used the multimedia space to present advanced networks, a subject still little known by the Salvadorans.

Ibarra explained that El Salvador was connected to advanced networks since 2005, 10 years after you have connected to internet, thanks to the existence of RAICES, which are connected infrastructure 7 universities.

“The teachers of these make their communications related to science, technology and education with other pairs of similar disciplines in the internet world through advanced. Science cannot be executed in one part of the planet, or in a single laboratory, it is done collaboratively,” he said. “Internet is the highway that we all use and that is congested. Internet 2 is another highway, but free, exclusively for scientists from different disciplines, there freely pass data from biology, chemistry, astronomy, scientists around the world,” he said.
