From 5th to 10th March 2012 was successfully carried out the Kick off meeting of the LATIn Project (Latin American Open Textbooks Initiative), in the city of Guayaquil and nearby regions of the Ecuadorian Coast.
The LATIn project is a project of the LACLO Community, funded by the European Union under No. DCI-ALA/19.09.01/11/21526/279-155/ALFAIII (2011) -52. It lasts 36 months and has a budget of 1,241,000 EUR.
LATIn aims to improve accessibility to the Latin American University of low-income students and reduce dropout rates due to financial reasons, and for that objective it seeks to develop and disseminate a collaborative initiative to create open textbooks for university education in Latin America.
The Kick off meeting of the project took place from 5th to 10th March, 2012 and was attended by representatives of the participating institutions, both in Latin America and Europe:
• Universidad Nacional de Rosario (UNR), Argentina.
• Universidad Plesbisteriana Mackenzie (UPM), Brazil.
• Universidad Leuven (KUL). Belgium.
• Universidad Austral de Chile (UACh), Chile.
• Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral (ESPOl), Ecuador.
• Universidad de Alcalá de Henares (UAH), Spain.
• Universidad Paul Sabatier (UPS), France.
• Universidad Autónoma de Aguascalientes (UAA). México.
• Universidad de Guadalajara (UdG), Mexico.
• Universidad Católica de San Pablo (UCSP), Peru.
• Universidad de la Republica (UdeLaR), Uruguay.
• Universidad Central de Venezuela (UCV), Venezuela.
The objectives proposed at the beginning of the Kick off meeting were completely achieved, wich were:
• Presentation of the Project.
• Presentation of the Intranet (http://intranet.latinproject.org/share) and Web site of the Project (http://latinproject.org)
• Presentation of the partners involved.
• Establishment of working groups and responsibilities of each partner in each working group
• Agreement on the activities and quality
• Agreement on the communication
• Agreement on working methods
• Agreement on the administration and management reports
• Detail plan of the next 6 months of work.
The next meeting, agreed by the members of the project, was established for the month of July 2012, in the city of Sao Paulo, Brazil.
