Guatemala celebrates science and technology week Print

Students, technicians, professionals, scientists, academics and entrepreneurs are participating in the "National Week of Science, Technology and Innovation 2011", which address key issues for economic and social development of the country.

The dissemination and popularization of science, technology and innovation to promote the vocation and the interests of Guatemalans in these areas is the main objective of an event that is taking place on April 4 to 8 in Guatemala City.

The National Week of Science, Technology and Innovation, held since 2005, is organized by the National Council of Science and Technology (CONCYT), through the National Secretariat of Science and Technology, SENACYT. The convention includes scientific conferences, workshops, round tables and panel discussions on scientific topics of national interest, presentation of research conducted in Guatemala, audiovisual presentation on technology topics, exhibits related to research and invention, innovation awards and inventiveness awards and other special activities.

The challenges facing the world today and the threats and hopes, are addressed in lectures from the perspective of innovation and science. Among the challenges that have been discussed at the event are global warming, the treatment of solid waste, water pollution, eutrophication and forest dynamics in Guatemala.

This day it will discuss problematic issues such as population, cleaner production and the threat of disasters in the country. It will also carry out a conversation with the approach "Women and Science" and a series of scientific and technological meetings will focus on indicators of science, technology and innovation, forest cover in Guatemala and technology parks.
