10 education centers chasing the prize for best institutional repository RENATA Print

Colombian organisation RENATA, a RedCLARA member, has given a special thrust to the digital repositories in the last year. As part of this tremendous effort, a special contest has been established to choose the entity with the most outstanding developments on this matter.

On November 25, 2011, the RENATA award for Best Institutional Repository, registered 12 applications. However, onlyten managed to pass validation to partipicipate. The only two cancellation swere due to errors in the process of filling out the information requested on the form.

The ten participants belong to four cities, with Bogotá, Pereira and Cali,lining up three centers each and Baranquilla with a single participant.

The process will consist of three stages. Initially, RENATA will verify the compliance of the indicators proposed in the registration form, by that meaning the Visibility, Policies, Legal Matters, Standarization as well as Design andorganization's set up. After that, the top five repositories will be evaluatedby the Selection Committee.

The Selection Committee will then make a final selection. The Committee will be formed by professionals from the Ministry of Information Technologies and Communications (MINTIC), the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation (COLCIENCIAS), the Ministry of Education and RENATA. Two more specialist will join the team, an expert on repositories and digital libraries,and a social designer or communicator of any of the entities that make RENATA.

The award will be announced bewteen December's 20th and 25th, 2011.
