A pioneer in the Americas, CAFe is part of the confederation of identity management of GÉANT.

On 13/12, the Federated Academic Community (CAFe) was included in the eduGAIN service, which brings together a network of trust, the identity management federations partners in GÉANT (Gigabit pan-European research network). The organization is a high capacity network that encompasses more than three thousand educational and research institutions in 32 countries through 28 national and regional research and education networks.

Besides Brazil, represented by CAFe, eduGAIN is formed by the federations of Croatia, Finland, Hungary, Italy, Norway, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. The list of candidates to join the confederation has the following countries: Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Latvia and the Netherlands. Thus, CAFe is the first federation of the Americas that joins this select club.

According to the RNP (Brazilian National Research and Education Network) Services Manager, Leandro Guimarães, "to be part of eduGAIN will open new opportunities of access to various service providers (SPs) that are members of other federations. The challenge from next year will be the mapping of these interests and successes that will be needed, since the service offered by GÉANT is also very recent, its production started in April this year. "

About CAFe

Included in the Service Catalog of RNP in the second half of 2010, CAFe is a federation that brings together academic and research institutions in Brazil. Through the Community, a user holds all his/her information at the home institution and can access services offered by institutions participating in the federation, through a single login feature known as single sign-on (SSO).

Institutions belonging to CAFe can act as identity and service providers. RNP is responsible for maintaining the centralized repository with data on members of the federation.

More information about CAFe and its member institutions can be obtained on the service page at: http://www.rnp.br/servicos/cafe.html.
