The event, which took place September 9 and 10 in Washington DC, was designed to contribute to the definition and implementation of policies for scientific and technological development and innovation in Latin America. For two days, Rubén Darío saloon in Washington DC in the US hosted the Sixth Regular Meeting of the Inter-American Commission on Science and Technology of the Organization of American States (OAS) attended by the highest authorities in science and technology on the continent.

The meeting's objective was to monitor the activities of Member States in compliance with the mandates of the Declaration and Plan of Action of the Second Meeting of Ministers and High Authorities on Science and Technology, held in Mexico in 2008, and identify hemispheric cooperation mechanisms to promote these and other topics of interest to the scientific and technological development and promoting innovation.

Moreover, the meeting was addressed by the President of the COMCYT, Dr. Lino Barañao, Minister of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation of Argentina, and was attended by 33 Latin American countries represented by ministers, local representatives of the science councils and technology, observer institutions, and special guests among those CLARA.

"At the OAS, we believe the future of our hemisphere, in terms of their competitiveness depends on a workforce with high skills in science and technology. We understand that if we want to improve productivity, provide development to the people, help them find better opportunities, fight poverty and all the other challenges of our countries, we have no choice but to make greater investments in science and technology, "said Secretary General of the OAS, Albert R. Ramdin.

Among other activities, a roundtable on the topic of interagency cooperation in science and technology took place and COMCYT authorities for the period 2010-2011 were elected.
